Air Conditioning Systems Design


A central air system cools the air in your home by using supply and return ducts to circulate the air. Cool air is carried through the supply ducts to the registers to cool your home. Registers are the vents located in the ceilings, floors, and walls that are enclosed by grill covers. As the air is dispersed into your home, it begins to become warmer. The unit will kick on and pull this warm air back into the unit for cooling through the return ducts. As your air conditioner goes through this process, it dehumidifies the air. When you live in an area where humidity is extremely high or your system is not the right size, not all the necessary humidity will be removed and problems can occur. Air conditioning systems design includes two types. These are split-system air conditioners or a package unit. The evaporator coil is positioned either in the furnace or heat pumps main supply duct or the indoor cabinet itself. This type of system is the better choice if your home already has a furnace. A packaged unit contains all components in one cabinet. The evaporator, compressor, and condenser are all in the same location. This cabinet is often placed on a concrete slab next to the home. Many small commercial businesses use this type of unit as well. They are often installed on the roof or outside of the building. The air ducts run through the interior of the home and go through the exterior wall to connect to the outside unit. A package unit often comes with heating coils or a furnace that runs on natural gas. With this setup, a separate furnace is not necessary. Air conditioning systems design is pretty straightforward as far as types and setup. Models vary by type, size, and capacity.

It is important to know which type of system is in your home so it can be properly maintained and you can give the appropriate information when air conditioning repair is needed.
