Importance of Changing Your A/C Air Filter

According to the EPA, the indoor air to which we breath is 70% more polluted than the outdoor air and studies show that the average American spends nearly 90% of their time indoors. This puts us all at risk of contracting various diseases from indoor air pollutants. The EPA actually ranks poor indoor air quality among the top five public health risks. Do you want to be healthier, more environmentally conscious and save money? Did you know that by doing something as easy as changing the air filter in your heating, cooling and ventilation system on a regular basis can provide all of these benefits.

One Benefit of changing your A/C Air Filter is healthier indoor air.

An air filters job is to keep the air in your home clean. Filters are designed to trap in dusts, molds, pollens and other harmful contaminants, which can create allergies and can cause terrible diseases. By changing out your filter on a regular basis you insure you are not recirculating these dangerous contaminates such as dust, molds and pollens back through your entire system and into your home.

Another benefit to changing out your a/c air filter on a regular basis is increased system efficiency as well as saving money on your electric bill every month. A dirty filter will drastically slow down air flow and cause your a/c system to work harder in order to keep your home at the desired temperature, wasting energy and decreasing the efficiency of your air conditioning system. When your system is working and the filter is clogged, it is using more energy and that means you will be paying more on your electric bill than you should have to.

One more benefit of changing out your dirty air filter on a regular basis is Increased longevity of your air conditioning system. An air filters job is also to keep the inside of your a/c system clean. According to Energy Star, a joint venture of the EPA and US Dept. of Energy, "Dirt and neglect are the #1 causes of premature system failure." A clean filter will prevent dust and dirt from building up in the system leading to expensive replacement of your air conditioner.

When filters are not clean, it makes it hard for your system to run as it should. This means more energy is used and more energy is wasted, (which also means), more pollution. The more electricity you use, the more carbon dioxide and other gases are released into the air. Let's help the environment while helping ourselves stay healthy. Change out them old a/c air filters on a regular basis. Your family and pets deserve it.
