Inverter Air Conditioners

A type of inverter that is commonly used by people is the "inverter tags", or also called "inverter compressors" found in air conditioners. These inverter signifies the ability of the unit to continuously regulate its thermal transfer flow by altering the speed of the compressor in response to the cooling demand. Traditionally used air conditioners use compressors that works at a maximum capacity or switched off periodically for room temperature regulation. The what so called "thermostat" is used to measure the air temperature in a room enabling the compressor to determine whether the air temperature is far from the desired temperature of the room.

There are alternative ways to meet the varying cooling demand in a room. We refer it as to modulation of the capacity of the compressor in an air conditioner. Air conditioner compressor have two components, the mechanical part and the electrical part. The mechanical part is the actual compressor, while the electrical part is the motor to drive the compressor. Either of the two components can be used to modulate the capacity of the compressor.

Inverter air conditioners use a "variable-frequency drive to control" the speed of the motor and thus the compressor. It uses a "rectifier" to convert the incoming AC (alternating current) to DC (direct current) so as to modulating it through pulse width modulation of the DC (direct current) within an inverter to produce AC (alternating current) at a desired frequency. The AC produced is now then inducted to a motor, also called an induction motor. Its speed should be proportional to the frequency of the AC, while the compressor runs at different speeds. It then gives a sample air current temperature and then adjust the speed of the compressor appropriately.

ELIMINATING STOP-START CYCLES

Eliminating this kind of stop-start cycles in air conditioners gives it a high efficiency and reliable purpose. It extends the life of its components, eliminate unnecessary rhythm in the load of the air conditioner placed on the power supply. This makes the inverter itself less prone to breakdowns and other similar conditions, cheaper cost for powering, and a much quieter compressor for the unit.

Though there are many drawbacks before for inverter air conditioners especially during the 1990s, most of it nowadays have been overcome. Conversion of energy losses from AC to DC back then was really high and filtering of electromagnetic interference in inverters was not reliably suppressed. But now, because of our advanced technology than before, conversion losses has decreased. A compressor today can perform its best efficiency even at full load. And because of this improvements, the inverter principle has been widely used to a range of household appliances and other electronic usages and applications. And as we expect, inverters still have a lot of improvements to give and benefit us in the near future.
