Caulk Your Home's Windows to Reduce Your Heating Fuel and Air Conditioning Power Budgets

It sounds too simple to be true - to simply caulk around your homes windows to be more homes heating fuel efficient, to save money and reduce your home winter heat and summer air conditioning power budgets. Yet it is more than true. Yet few homeowners fail to follow this simple step and procedure. On top of that by sealing your home or office from drafts you will ultimately have better comfort and better more comfortable humidity levels in your environment and environments.

Caulk up all cracks to stop cold air from infiltrating this winter season.

Amazingly furnace & heating experts will state that a hole as simple as what you might think of as a small crack around a window, can add up to having as much incoming air as if you had a hole the size of a brick in your wall. And on top of that when you think that you are done, go back and check yet again for spots that you may not have thought of or noticed. It is downright amazing how many cracks around windows and other sources of heat loss get missed. An example in the heating and air conditioning trade schools often referred to was a property owner who did not remove shutters the first time around for caulking. When the spring time renovation and upgrade season came, and that same home owner removed the sets of shutters for painting, she found three full sets of windows that were totally missed in the first go around in the fall for winter time routine caulking. So the lesson is after the first examination of cracks in the walls, around windows and around openings such as heater dryer ducts, go back yet again and check for areas where outside air can well be leaking out or into the interior environments.

If you use a caulking gun, you can easily and simply put a little detergent in a bowl of cold water. Next dip your fingers into the suds to smooth the caulk. You will find that you can smooth the caulking easily without smearing it onto the window pane and panes themselves or onto areas of adjacent walls or window casings. Be neat it your home and a reflection of yourself and your family. Caulk and caulking materials are sold commercially in two different and even distinct forms. It is all personal preference which you like and prefer to use. Or it may be different situations and uses. The most popular forms a cartridge of caulk which is expended via a "caulking gun". This is perhaps the easiest method and the most convenient. In the other forms of caulk commercial material the materials are sold rolled in a coil, with a thin plastic strip that covers and separates it. When using this format first clean the surface well, next press the caulking material in place with your fingertips and simply pull the plastic away.

Taking the simple steps of examining your living areas for cracks around your windows, doors and utility openings to the outside can save you and your family heating costs, reduce your heat fuel and summertime air conditioning power budgets and as well increase your comfort levels in your home. Isn't it worth the time, effort and costs?
