The Central Air Conditioning 101

In comparison to the other kinds of air conditioning (like: window air conditioners), the central AC is much more environment friendly and energy efficient. The refrigerant required in many air conditioning units can add to the global warming phenomenon. However many new models in the central AC are coming with a latest refrigerant which has been specially developed and does not deplete the ozone.

CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING 101: The AC mechanism involves the removal of humidity, heat and specific particulates suspended in the air, the points below would briefly describe the working of the air conditioning process.

1) The refrigerant in the air conditioner uses the refrigeration cycle to remove the heat in the air. In refrigeration cycle the refrigerant changes from the liquid to gas and vice versa.

This conversion occurs in the air conditioner's coils where it evaporates to become gas because of the warm air which is flowing through the coil. During evaporation the refrigerant cools down the air causing the humidity present in the air to condense, thus in the process reduces the relative humidity of the room air returning to the room.

After evaporation the refrigerant arrives in the condensing coil where it returns back to the liquid state after its heat is discharged.

2) The particulates present in air are then removed the filters. The large amounts of particles are removed by the H.E.P.A (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters. You can even add the electrostatic filter to your AC to assist any allergy sufferer by making use of the static energy to remove the allergens.

RATINGS FOR CENTRAL AC:

In the central air conditioning system, the main component is the central air conditioning unit. These units usually have the two ratings, S.E.E.R( Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating) and the tonnage.

1) The efficiency of the air conditioner is determined by the S.E.E.R, higher the S.E.E.R the more efficient the unit is.

2) The cooling load on the unit is called the tonnage. The improper size of the AC unit may have debilitating effect on your comfort and also the longevity of the unit. Normally an A.C. unit continuously runs in the summer season removing the humidity from the air in the process.

In terms of tonnage, the bigger AC is not always a better option as it will have a short cycle. The shorter is the cycle, the lesser will be the humidity which will be extracted from the air. Moreover the components of the air conditioner will wear at a faster rate.
