Air Conditioning Service is a Necessity

Air conditioners can break down for a variety of reasons. Usually the resident doesn't immediately notice until the temperature outside rises. The interior temperature slowly rises and it is then that most people recognize the tell tale signs of a broken air conditioner. The unit may run but only blow warm air.

Many times, if the unit is running but only blowing warm air, the problem can be rectified by cleaning the unit. If you are comfortable with basic home repair you can do it yourself! Otherwise, a company that handles Phoenix air conditioning service can come out and do the job for you. It isn't too difficult and here's how you do it!

First look for a disconnect panel near the air conditioner. It looks like a giant circuit breaker. Throw the switch and the unit should power down. If you're not sure, you can shut off the main breaker to the whole house. A good way to test this is to run the fan first and make sure it turns off when you throw the switch.

Clear leaves and debris from around the unit and remove the protective grill that covers the condenser fins. You can always call a Phoenix air conditioning contractor to take over but many people find that they can do the work themselves. Brush off the fins with a sturdy brush. Vacuum them out to remove all of the accumulated dirt.

If possible, unscrew and remove the grill covering the top of the unit. If a fan is attached, make sure you don't disconnect any of the wires. Now, from inside the unit, hose down the fins. Be careful not to get any of the wires or connections wet!

When you're done, reattach all of the grills and wait for everything to dry. If the temperature is low, you may need to wait longer. Activate the circuit again. Go inside the house and set the thermostat at a low temperature so the unit will turn on. Once on, check the unit for normal operation. If the unit does not turn on, make sure your thermostat is set on COOL and that you set the temperature low enough.

In the event the unit will not power on, you should call a Phoenix Heating and Air company to have the system professionally examined. A variety of things can cause an air conditioner to not resume normal operation after a cleaning. Rather than troubleshoot on your own, your safest bet is to contact a service firm.
