Hiding Your Air Conditioning Unit Outside

As a homeowner, you may have spent a lot of time and money on the exterior perimeters of your home. Many homeowners spend money on landscaping, plants, trees, and many other things to keep their outside looking new and up to date. All homeowners spend a lot of time keeping the outside looking attractive, and therefore having an air conditioning unit sticking out can look unattractive and can take away from the true beauty of all your hard work and money. There are several effective and stylish ways to hide your AC unit while still keeping your outside perimeters looking appealing.

Natural Tips

Begin by measuring height, width, and height of your unit. This is going to give you an idea of what you have to work with and what your options are for concealing it.

One great option is with green bushes or other plants of some sort. Take a trip to a gardening store and ask someone about the different options for green bushes to plant around your unit. Tell them you are looking to hide the AC unit and they will be able to better help you. A few good choices include yew, laurel, and holly as these are attractive and can get the job done.

Consider checking out different species of bushes as well as plants in case bushes are not recommended to use. This is also the case if bushes you like are going to attract bugs and other unwanted pests. Make sure you get enough plants or bushes to go around your air conditioning unit to conceal it. Make sure the required space for the bushes is doable around your unit. Some require the need for more space than others.

Keep your bushes and other greenery concealing your unit clean and trimmed regularly. Anything growing out of control or sloppy is going to result in the outside of your home looking unattractive to passer-byers.

Privacy Screens

Place 4x4 posts into the ground surrounding the area your air conditioning unit is in. Once in place, take a circular saw and cut them down to size so they are no more than 24 inches above the top of your air conditioning unit.

Next, you're going to need to attach the lattice to the posts with wood screws. Install them at the bottom, middle and top of the posts. You can do this faster with the aid of an electric screwdriver.

Choose a stain or color of paint that you want to paint your lattice. This adds more personalization as well as style to the outside of your home.

If you are looking to instantly conceal your unit, you can buy large potted plants and place them around the area, or you can buy trees and plant them around the air conditioning unit. You can also opt for a L-shaped fence rather than doing a lattice or privacy screen. Keep in mind that if you are choosing to use plants, not all of them grow fast, so it will take time to grow to conceal your unit.
