Although most people think the same thing about AC units, not many are familiar with the different air conditioning systems that are in use today. You may think it's not important to know all of the current types of AC models sold on the market, but knowing your options may prove useful if you need to purchase an air conditioning unit for your home or office. Here are the four types of AC units that are in use today:
1. Window-Type - this type of AC unit is commonly used in small, enclosed rooms. They are installed on the wall, usually on a windowsill. The cooling coil, evaporator, condenser, compressor, and expansion valve are all encased in a metal box.
2. Split-Type - this type of AC has two units: an indoor unit containing the evaporator or cooling coil and the cooling fan, and an outdoor unit containing the compressor, expansion valve, and condenser. Split-type AC units are not installed in wall slots; they are mounted on ceilings or at convenient corners. Most split-type air conditioning units have great aesthetics- making them components in a room's interior design. A split-type AC can be used for one to two rooms.
3. Packaged Air Conditioning - this type is a merge between a window-type and split-type AC. It comes in two versions. One contains all components in a single box. It comes with a high-capacity blower that drives the cool air to several rooms. Another version is a compressor and condenser in a solid casing that forces gas through individual units having their own expansion valves and coils, all distributed to various rooms.
4. Centralized Air Conditioning - This AC type is like a huge first version of the Packaged AC. Its compressor has the ability to pump tons of cool air in a minute. The air passes through ducts that distribute the cool air to various rooms. This AC type is perfect for use in large areas or structures with multiple rooms such as buildings, hospitals, houses, gymnasiums, mess halls, etc.
Always choose the right kind of air conditioning to install in a room. In this manner, you will spend your money reasonably and be able to control your power consumption. Installing an expensive unit because it looks good or is very powerful is not ideal, especially if you only need to ventilate a small area. Always be practical in choosing an air conditioning unit so you will have no problems in the way of maintenance, repair, and other related costs.
