Inverter Air Conditioner Vs Traditional Air Conditioner

Inverter conditioners are said to be an energy efficient alternative to the traditional air conditioners we have in our homes today. I am sure we are now hearing more about this cooling device but how do this work and why should we even consider getting one instead of just the energy efficient traditional air conditioning units we now have?

This is not a new technology as inverters are being developed as early as the 1990s but just like any technology, it experienced some drawbacks during the early stages of its use in air conditioners. However, through continuous research, the current ones we now have installed in modern inverter air conditioners were able to address these.

A traditional air conditioning system uses a refrigerant compressor to regulate temperature which runs either in maximum capacity or turned off. This type of compressor would be on its maximum capacity until it reaches the desired or required temperature then shuts down. The periodical switching on and off of this compressor is responsible for the huge energy consumption.

However, the inverter air conditioning system regulates the temperature without having to switch off with the use of a variable frequency drive that allows for the electrical inverter to adjust in order to control the speed of the unit's motor. This simply means the compressor does not have to turn off but it stays on to regulate the temperature with just the speed of the motor being controlled to adjust to the temperature or cooling output needed.

It may seem like the inverter unit would be using more energy by being turned on all the time as opposed to the traditional one that goes off when not needed but it is more energy efficient this way. The process of having to turn on after being switched off uses a lot of energy up until it reaches its maximum capacity to cool the room.

As for the inverter, it uses micro-controllers that control the speed of the motor to regulate the temperature. It goes on its maximum capacity to cool the room then slows down when the desired temperature is achieved. It can also detect fluctuations in temperature and can easily do its job to make the necessary adjustments. This makes it more energy efficient by simply maintaining a lower speed instead of having to turn on and gain momentum. This also reduces the amount of noise generated by the unit.

In addition, the constant turning on and off of the traditional air conditioning unit can be taxing to the unit and other connected components. This is seen to be once of the reasons for shorter service life of the unit.

Knowing about these advantages, Inverter air conditioners seem like a really smart way of addressing the need for a more energy efficient option for home cooling. It is one of the new technologies we may really want to explore more and benefit from in our homes.
