There are so many different types of air conditioners now available on the market. If you haven't bought an air conditioner before, it can really seem a bit daunting. Here, we've listed some of the main different types of options available for your home, to help you choose the right air conditioning system to suit your family.
Window/wall Units - This would have to be the most common type of air conditioner available. It is preferred for most residences because it is able to heat and cool effectively and a decent unit can be bought for within any reasonable budget. They are installed by fitting into a window, or by being installed into a makeshift hole in a wall. All parts are located inside the one unit.
Split System Units - Unlike the above type of air conditioner, split system units don't need to be placed in a window or for a hole to be cut in the wall for it to fit. They often offer a more sleeker design, and are perfect for those who don't want them to disrupt their decor. The way a split system unit works is by having two units. One indoor unit, which incorporates the evaporator and cooling fan and an outdoor unit which has the condenser, expansion valve and compressor. It's another great option for residential properties.
Ducted Air Units - A ducted air conditioner works by circulating air through a duct system which is installed in the home. A cooling fan and the motor for the unit sit outside of the house. They are able to cool or heat every room in the house if you wish. These types of unit systems need to be installed by professionals, and although can often be the most expensive option, is probably rated as one of the best.
Other important terms:
Reverse Cycle -This simply means that it can warm and cool a room depending on your preference. This is a great feature to have.
Inverter systems - This means that it has an inverter which can alter the motor and fan speed to cool rooms fast. This works by the unit being able to constantly change motor and fan speed to reach the desired temperature faster and more efficiently.
Before buying any system, you should look at the type of requirements you have for an air conditioner. If you only need to cool/heat one or two main rooms, then a split system or window units would be suitable. However, if you are looking for a solution that will allow you to control the temperature in the entire house, ducted air conditioning is the best option.
Buying the right unit to suit your needs can often be a daunting task. I hope our summary of the different types of air conditioning available has helped you decide what option is best for you and your families needs.
