Why spend so much money on having all those maintenance checks and actual repairs done to your AC units when you can do it yourself? The following are the simple and yet effective steps to follow to repair air conditioners:

1. TURN THE POWER OFF - The first thing you need to do is to turn off the power. After switching off the power, you need to locate the capacitor. In order to locate it, please refer to the instructions that are provided by the capacitor's manufacturer.

2. FAN MOTOR MUST BE OILED AND THE CONDENSER CLEANED - The fan motor should be lubricated using oil that is specified by the manufacturer. The condenser has to be cleaned with the use of a brush to remove all dust that has accumulated.

3. CONDENSER COILS HAVE TO BE CLEANED, TOO - The next step would be to make use of a garden hose to clean the condenser coils. Be sure that the coil guard is removed before being sprayed with water.

5. FILTER REPLACEMENT - Use plastic electrostatic mesh filter - you'll have to cut it using scissors and rinse with clean water and dry completely before using it.

6. REFRIGERANT REPLACED - The refrigerant should be replaced, but you might need to hire somebody else to do that - and make sure that there are no harmful gas leakge while this is being done.
