Getting Air Conditioning? - 8 Essential Questions to Ask Your Salesman

Getting a quote for air conditioning can be a daunting task. There are so many questions to ask you may not know where to begin. Below is a list of questions you should ask your salesman. If you accidentally forget a question, don't be afraid to ring back and ask it again.

1). What type of air conditioner have you quoted me on?

There are many types of air conditioners out there so make sure the one they have quoted you on is the one you are after.

2). How much will it cost?

Make sure the price is written down and includes all supply and installation costs. Make sure there are no hidden extras or extra costs that come up down the track.

3). When can you install the system?

In the middle of summer some companies can be booked up for months. Make sure before you sign up that you get an installation date written on paper and signed by the company. Also ask how long the installation will take (how many days).

4). Who will be installing the system?

Make sure the people installing your system are trained and accredited to do what they are doing. You don't want just anyone walking through your home. Make sure they have police clearance as well.

5). Do you have insurance?

Make sure the installers have insurance in case they break or damage anything inside your home.

6). How much of my home will the air conditioner cool?

Some air conditioners will cool your whole home, others may only cool a few rooms. Some air conditioners can only cool the room they are in. Be sure to know what you are getting.

7). Warranties?

Ask the salesman about the warranties that come with your air conditioner. See how many years the warranty lasts, what things are excluded from the warranty and what you have to do should you need to make a warranty claim. Make sure to get these warranty details written down by the salesman.

8). How & when to make payment?

Speak to the salesman to determine when payment needs to be made by. Some companies ask for it before, others on completion or after the job. Be wary of any company that asks for a large deposit upfront (any more than 25%).

You can add all the questions you can think of as well. Remember, there is no such thing as a silly question. Air conditioning is a big investment so make sure you ask every question you can think of. Also be sure to get the major points written down by the company you are dealing with.
