Critical: Make Sure Your Ventilation and Air Conditioning Systems Are Clean for Your Health!

When I opened our restaurant I had to take a steep learning curve into all things air conditioning. In fact I had to co-design the system to fit into the building in what experienced air conditioning experts claimed was impossible!

We ended up installing a packaged unit. A (reasonably) small unit which fitted the condensers, air intake and out take, all within one unit (instead of the more traditional split system)

Being in a restaurant and a commercial situation which is visited by the public I quickly learned how much fresh air a building is required by law. Any forced air system (be it cooling, heating or pure ventilation) must provide the general public (and yourselves) with enough fresh air per square meter (minimum guidelines are set different per country)

Not only this but air conditioning systems are the number one carrier of virus infections and illness if left unmaintained. It is paramount that you make sure the system is clean at all times and delivering fresh healthy air.

If you've even been in a situation in which you feel more run down that usual, as if your immune system is lower than it should be or the air you are breathing is triggering asthma you may well find that its time to get that air conditioning system checked.

For piece of mind alone it is worth making sure that the system is not damp and carrying too much dust as the combination of the two in a forced air system can be the perfect breeding ground for bacteria. This obviously is not good for your health what so ever.
